Imposter Syndrome is not unique to adult creators, it’s something that everyone experiences at least once in their life. I know when I was self employed as a virtual assistant I frequently felt imposter syndrome, like I was a fraud and people would find out any moment that I am not who I say I am. I was afraid to tell extended family I had started my own business. This is something I experience at least monthly as an adult creator. I’m here to help support you through your journey with Imposter Syndrome. These tips have helped me find light on the dark days and continue creating content that I enjoy, from having a community to creating a feedback folder. I hope these help you too!
Lean on Your Community
If you’re starting to feel yourself slip into a place of self-doubt, find your people. This isn’t just exclusive to imposter syndrome, lean on them when you lose that huge social account, or are in a slump. They can relate, they have been there before. If you don’t have people in your corner, somewhere like CEO Society is great place to be! Being an adult creator can be incredibly isolating so it’s crucial to have a group of people who relate to your struggles, and celebrate your wins.
Look Backwards, Not Forward
Looking backward seems counterintuitive but it’s not. When you’re feeling like a fraud look at what you have accomplished. If I’m being completely transparent, I was dealing with this feeling right up until I started this blog post. I thought I needed more experience or a larger social media following, a higher percentage or income to share my knowledge with the world. Then I lightbulb went off and I realized that making ANY money in this industry, sticking with it through losing accounts, being shadowbanned and slow periods, all of those things have given me merit! They have given me learning experiences and knowledge that I can share with new creators.
When you’re stuck, turn around, remember that you started with nothing. Even if you built a social media following and then created an OnlyFans or Fansly account, wherever you are, whatever you do, we all started at the bottom. I want you to take the time to notice what you have accomplished. You are worthy, and smart and someone right now is looking up to you.
It’s Feedback Folder Time
This plan to combat imposter syndrome can also be helpful for social proof (proving you are who you say you are, and that you provide a quality service) along with providing feedback for potential fans to view! When you get a great review for a custom, or of your page, screenshot that and create a folder full of these messages!
Get Introspective
Whether you choose to meditate or just do some self reflection, during moments of self doubt take the time to get introspective. Find your strengths and things you do well, help encourage and remind yourself that there are so many talents you have! This ties back into leaning on your community, let them know how you’re feeling, I promise they’ll help you find these strengths and talents!
Getting introspective is also a great time to get a journal out. Take a look at your strengths and the growth you’ve created, not only within your adult creator brand but personally as well. If you’re lost on where to start, these journal prompts may help you.
