First of all? You’re on OnlyFans, Fansly, Sextpanther, wherever you are…you’re a sexworker. That is nothing to be ashamed of! Don’t further stigmatize it and feel embarrassed. Own that ish!

From consistency to authenticity and learning the ins and outs of social media, being an adult creator is sooo much work, here are a few of my favorite lessons from my first year!

Consistency is Crucial

No matter where you are posting, be it on your paid pages or social media consistency is crucial. Remember that done is better than perfect. Consistency lets your fans know what to expect from your pages, and in my experience makes them more likely to leave rebill on. I take my consistency as far as posting within the hour on my exclusive sites every day, so my subscribers know when they can expect a new post.

Consistency will also help you when it comes to promoting, because it will help you grow your social media accounts (especially Instagram) which allows you to be seen by more potential buyers. Not only does it help you grow there but it will make your analytics more accurate.

My last point on consistency involves the content you’re creating both SFW and NSFW, try to keep some consistency, don’t be afraid to change your niche or add some variety but keep natural lighting and along the same lines. If you do decide it’s time to rebrand, this is the best podcast episode I’ve ever heard on it!

Be Authentically You

I think we’ve all seen sex workers who build a persona successfully, but my advice to you is to just be yourself. Someone is out there, looking for a creator just like you. Whether you have rolls or stretch marks, whether your hair is purple or blonde, you are perfect and desired as you are.

I have loved bringing my hobbies of gaming, being outdoors and my kinky side into my content creation and promotion. I now have subscribers I have become close with, we share game and anime recommendations with each other. Being authentically you will absolutely help you gain traction in the adult creator space.

Don’t Know Something, Research It

From amazing industry professionals like Melrose Michaels of SexWorkCEO to the Creators Advice Subreddit there are so many places to research your questions. It doesn’t matter whether it’s looking for new content ideas or how to price a custom request, somewhere will have an answer for you! SexWorkCEO even has a Telegram bot with daily inspo ideas!

I love having a throwaway Reddit account to offer advice on my experiences in the adult creator industry, and many top creators do as well. In addition to Reddit being a great place to find answers to your most heated questions on creating content, starting an adult site and there are a few creators who have great podcasts! My favorite two are On The Whorizon and the Professional Goddess!

Make Connections

One of my favorite parts of becoming sex worker is that I have met so many amazing people, from subscribers to other creators, it has truly been a blessing. It is so scary starting out, I encourage you to ask questions, make connections and get to know people. If you’re another mom who creates content, send me a message on my Instagram account, maybe you’d be a good fit for our little group of mom creators!

If you’re feeling brave, places like XBiz and the AVN awards are great places to make connections, but even if you’re not there yet, take a look at the OnlyFans Collabs subreddit to see if there’s someone near you that you could get to know. We have to stick together as sex workers, protect our rights, and support each other. It’s time to put community over competition!

Failure is Normal, Don’t be Afraid to Get Back Up

Failure is so f*cking hard to deal with in any industry but it seems impossible to get away from in the adult content industry. From losing accounts (trust me, it will happen) chargebacks, being banned and more, creating adult content is full of failures but I encourage you to get back up and come back even stronger. Learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others, use that knowledge! One way to learn from your failures is to look at the situation of being banned, it happens most often on Reddit and Instagram. On Reddit, be sure to look carefully at a subreddit’s rules and whether you need to verify first. Breaking those rules will likely result in a ban, and a lot of the subreddits work together. Losing one account could actually mean losing many.

When it comes to Instagram being banned involves much more work, like checking your account status daily and ensuring that the content you’re creating isn’t too revealing. Remember to be ‘sneaky sexy’ suggestive does best here. Let me tell you, as someone who has had eight Instagram accounts, it is best to err on the side of caution.

If you’re just starting out as a creator, I hope that this post gives you an idea on some of the challenges and highlights of becoming an adult creator. It is hard work, and rewarding work, but when you’re authentically you, connect with other creators and use consistency you can overcome anything! Don’t forget that failure is frustrating but it will eventually lead to success.
